HISTORY OF THE DAVIDSON ORGANIZATION
In 1962, with the opening of Davidson Chevrolet in Rome, NY, Donald Davidson, Sr. had laid the foundation for what was to ultimately become one of the leading automotive sales and service groups in central and northern New York state. Upon Don's retirement, five of his seven children stayed with the family business and went on to establish several more dealerships.
Initially, 1984 saw the opening of D Chevrolet in Watertown, NY, and in 1985 Davidson Chevrolet-Oldsmobile opened its doors in Boonville, NY. In recent years, Davidson operations in Watertown have experienced exponential growth with the opening of Davidson Buick-Pontiac-GMC in 1995, and in 1998 with the acquisition of the area's Oldsmobile and Cadillac franchises. Olds and Cadillac were a natural fit with the Chevy nameplate, and D Chevrolet evolved to become Davidson Chevrolet-Oldsmobile-Cadillac. At the same time a brand new state-of-the-art facility for the Buick, Pontiac and GMC franchises was built next door to the Chevrolet-Oldsmobile-Cadillac property to create the Davidson Regional GM Super Center. The Super Center has become the number-one volume GM dealership in the Canada to Pennsylvania corridor.
In 2000, the Davidson Auto Group in Watertown stepped outside the General Motors fold with the establishment of Davidson Nissan in Watertown. And most recently, in 2007, Drive Davidson Pre-Owned Auto Centers were established at all five new car dealerships along with two new stand-alone Drive Davidson locations, one on Arsenal Street in Watertown, the second on Commercial Drive in Yorkville, NY. This makes a total of seven Drive Davidson locations serving central and northern New York.

For nearly 40 years the Davidson automotive organization has maintained a policy of controlled and steady growth which has made it possible to expand without sacrificing customer service.
